In partnership with the CREATE Foundation of northeast Mississippi, the Fred Carl, Jr. Small Town Center’s 2017 CREATE Common Ground project focused on pedestrian infrastructure in Aberdeen, Mississippi.
Working with the community and the Aberdeen school district, our team conducted a pedestrian safety audit and identified several locations for pedestrian improvements. The Small Town Center team ultimately selected the mid-block street crossing on North Long Street between the Early Education Center and Aberdeen Elementary School as the top priority.
The crosswalk installation featured a unique design that incorporated school colors, which made crossing the street both fun and safe for elementary school students.
