Downtown Recovery Plan
On April 27, 2011, an EF5 tornado hit the town of Smithville and destroyed the entire downtown area along Highway 25. The Small Town Center worked as part of the FEMA Long Term Recovery team to begin to rebuild the community. Fourth year architecture students partnered with the STC to replan the town and design a new municipal center, including a town hall, police station, fire station, and library. The community utilized the site planning and conceptual designs from the students to rebuild its new civic complex.
